arrange a boiler inspection for house im buying?
Is it appropriate if i arrange a CORGI registered engineer to vist the property im purchasing to check the boiler?
Its a horrible back boiler with fire front.
Apart from looking very ugly i understand these boilers can be inefficent. Also, this is an old looking thing and it may be on its last legs in which case I would have to replace the system myself, so am seeing if any money could be knocked off the property price if this is the case.
I know about home buyers reports and building surverys, but the surveyor would not be qualified to check such a thing.
Is it a bit cheeky of me to ask for this to be done or is caution the way forward with buying a property? I would obviously arrange a convieint time with the vendor.

I am quite often asked to carry out a home buyers report on the gas installation and appliances by prospective purchasers.
It is up to you. It could be money well spent if they find a fault etc.0 -
Cheers gas4you.
I was under the understanding this wasnt possible for a surveyor to do, only a gas man as such.
If this is the case perhaps I can specify to the person who does my HBR to specificaly pay attention to the boiler.0 -
Sorry ,gas4you are you a surveyor or a gas engineer?0

I think the clue may be in his username...
By the sound of it you will probably want to replace it anyway due to age, so why not just negotiate based on the fact that it's obviously due for replacement. If you have reason to believe it's unsafe, that is another mattter. Maybe ask the vendor when it was last serviced and to show evidence of that?
A surveyor is not qualified to do such an inspection, nor of the electrics. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks macman and Canucklehead. all good advice.
I know if i want a different type of system installed (hate the way baxi boiler firefronts look) it will cost near £3000 so I will speak with my solicitor and see what can be done.0
