A nice, light, free, modular media player. Far better than the bloated, resource hungry iTunes in my opinion. Plus you can "skin" it (apply a theme), and there are countless plugins available.

SonicStage, hmmm, it'll most likely be in Son'y's ATRAC format. The best option would be to search your computer for any mp3 (or similar music format) files. Do this by going to Start (button in the bottom left of the screen) > Search. Search for the phrase *.mp3

If you want a usb flash drive that can play music, get the older (1st Gen) iPod Shuffle. You can pick them up on eBay for £25 for a 1Gb model. I've still got mine, it's great.

I've got my music on it, and also use it for storing documents, files etc... It's basically a glorified usb key that can play music. I don't use iTunes with mine (cant stand it). You can use Winamp to put music across, or use Windows Explorer and just drag and drop. You then need to run a small app and it updates it for you.

Winamp should be able to play virtually any file. You may get problems with some forms of protection though.

Basically, the most important thing is to get your music right. There are hundreds of media apps out there like Winamp. At the end of the day it's all about the music files you have though. One reason I won't buy from iTunes is the DRM (Digital Rights Management) they put on the files. Very restrictive, basically the industry defining how you should listen to your music rather than you.

My advice would be either to buy cd's still. That way you get a natural backup and can convert it to whatever you want (ie mp3 etc...)

Or pick one store, a good one, and buy your music from there. Wippit looks good, and certainly eMusic. There's another site we can't mention on here that isn't maybe the most morale or legal (still not proven though), but it offers a better service than anything out there. You'll need to do your own research into that though.

  • thanks wolfman i am off to go and have a 'play' and see if i can get this music off this mp3 player... i may be back :rotfl:

edit: i have no idea what i am doing, i am trying to put the music thats on my mp3 player back into my libary (on sonic stage) and i get this message - tracks do not exsit in my libary ae selected, cannot transfer tracks deleated from my libary to the computer... is there any other way to get them 'out of' my mp3 player...
  • Hi,

I suggest that you download the latest version of Windows Media player.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx

I know everyone hates microsoft but this is excellent software and very easy to use.

You should be able to then connect your MP3 player and run the import wizard. It will then search your whole pc and mp3 player and copy the files to your "my music" folder which is "my documents"

If you get stuff press f1... the help is very easy to follow.

    Hope this helps.
