Dog Messing In House- help!

A friend of mine has got a problem with her sons dog pooing in the house.
He is a 12 year old boarder collie who has been good until recently.
He had an op on his back leg to remove a tumour a while back and its been slow to heal up. However he has started to go out into the garden and comes in lies down and he poos in his bed.
Its seems odd he does it when hes lying down--its a normal poo-not runny and hes also done wee's as well.He also seems depressed.
The dog has been living with her for 18 months or so due to changes in sons circumstances-and her own little dog died a couple of months ago-though she dosent think that bothered him too much as he took litttle notice of him.
Its happened 3 or 4 times in the last 24 hours-- Im wondering if he has another tumour inside somewhere that is causing it or could it be getting old--though in other ways he dosent seem 12 .
Any ideas please--its very distressing for everyone concerned.
I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....

  • He needs to be seen by a vet - it is not messing indoors by the sound of it, but incontinence, which could be caused by a whole host of factors. He may well be feeling very poorly too from what you describe.

Yes I'd take him to vets to be on the safe side. My dog is similar age and she's started to pooh indoors - she has had a worsening back problem for some years and her time is coming to a close I think. She eats ok and doesn't seem in pain unless when trying to climb on the setee. We have to take her out for a short walk (stumble) at least 3 times a day or she will soil herself. Old age I'm afraid.
