Driveway gates

Hi,

I own a semi-detached property but the driveway is very narrow, mainly the entrance and need to save some space and money when fitting new gates.

I will be knocking down the brick pillars and would like some space saving simple iron gates. Has anyone seen any at all? I was think of a thin iron post to hold the gates up but haven't come across any.

Many thanks in advance,
C

Although our driveways aren't that narrow myself and most of my neighbours have done away with gates on our driveways, its not caused any problems being without gates.. is there a reason why you can't just remove them altogether?, very money saving

BQ and wickes sell small lengths of metal. different section/profiles. suitable for gate posts.
also try any scrapyard or engineers suppliers.

for the gates, try ebay or freecycle.
    Get some gorm.
  • Will try B&Q and Wickes.

Never thought of completely removing them. Will definitely consider that, unless I will get a dog in the future.

    Thanks!

I used a length of box section that i got for a few pounds from local metal merchant as a post for my gates.
  • It would be great to see some pictures. :)

  • is that metal or wood.... sorry to be so dim but we've just bought 2nd hand iron gates. About 3ft tall each gate 3 ft 6 " wide and wonder do we need metal, concrete or wood posts to hang them on. most seem to be old and metal around here....
