Hiya, this all might seem confusing but i will try and stick to pointers to help. If anyone can advise since my local cab are so busy i cannot get through to speak to anyone, id really appreciate it.
I no longer work and receive Long term incapacity benefit and the lowest rate of disabilty care and mobilty components.
My husband works full time and receives industrial injuries benefit.
We receive tax credits however i do not know if my husband should receive any more or less due to his industrial injuries benefit.
We have always been advised industrial injuries is not a taxable benefit however others have since advised me he may be entitled to more because he receives it, yet others tell me we could get less as a result? im so confused. I stayed up all night last night scouring the internet for answers yet all comes to nothing. It shows on our tax credit details i am disabled yet nothing for hubbys IIB.
The reason I ask is we are really struggling financially. I know others are the same if not worse off than us but things are getting really bad and im frightened i will have to sell our home. We have 3 children living with us, 2 on low paid apprenticeships and 1 qualifying for child benefit and tax credits.
My husband pays csa for 2 children from a previous relationship one of whom is in social services assisted housing on her own ( aged 16 ) yet we still pay her mother csa( any help on this would be great ).
csa is confusing us also as it states if you are in receipt of industrial injuries then you pay a flat rate of £5 per child however since hubby is working i am unsure if this applies. Please dont ask me to contact them direct, it makes things worse. I did this 4 years ago regarding a matter and they have now handed out over £6k worth of supposed arrears owed ( this is now in the hands of the ombudsman ) so you can understand my caution.
please help if you are able, im so tired of it all now i dont know how much longer we can cope like this. Thanks x

at what level was your husband assessed for his IIB?0

hi, thanks for at least looking and attempting to help x im not sure of the exact percentage but i know he gets £174 per month if that helps any.0

OK, looks like it was only at 30%
the reason I was asking was if it was at 100% then he could have qualified for other things like constant attendance allowance, but then again you said he worked full time so I guess that would be out of the window any way.
Are you in reciept of IB or any other disablitiy benefits? if not you need to apply and see if you can get that
you may also be eligibe for DLA as might your husband if either of you have care or mobility needs?
sorry just re-read your OP and you already get DLA
I don't mean to sound rude, but there does sound like there is a fair amount of money going into the household
maybe if your struggling because of debt you could have a look on the debt free wannabee board for some advice on getting your monthly payments reduced so you can cope a bit better0 -
There is a dedicated child support board that may be able to help advise you on the CSA related issues.
The DFW board is the best place if you are struggling as the experts there can review your household statement of accounts and suggest ways of reducing expenses and dealing with debts.0 -
Thank you, I think maybe there is a misunderstanding it may look like there is a good income however without giving personal details on here i can try and explain that there isnt. I worked full time always when i was a single mum, my sister passed away leaving 3 children whom i took in with no help from anyone, basically i took on too much. I got really poorly and my immune system gave up. I found myself no longer able to work and the loss of that wage was horrendous. I managed to pay my mortgage for a while ( i never claimed benefits ) then realised i was fighting a losing battle. My bf moved in with us to take over the bills etc and we married. Then he was made redundant. We took stock immediately and asked a government debt management company to help. They sorted out a payment plan for us to follow and hubby managed to get another job. His now wage covers 3 direct debits. Half of his wage goes to pay the mortgage, the other half pays his csa and the debt plan. ( thats it ) the income i get covers the household bills and food. We barely manage. The debts in the plan are from myself when i was trying to maintain a home and its needed repairs etc on a single income. Thank you for trying to advise me, i will try the csa board for help but its the industrial injuries query that was my main one as i dont understand how this works. x0
