I know I will be made redundant in next few months - what should I do to prepare?

Hi, just wanted to tell you my story as I think it's a nice positive one.
Was made redundant in 2005 from my job in adult education, I was a bit bored anyway so I wasn't that gutted, got a 5k payment and took a month off (August, it was even a sunny one). I looked into claiming JSA but couldn't be bothered as it was a million page form and an interview at a job centre miles form home.
I knew I wanted a change of direction but didn't know what. After a month I signed up with a temping agency just doing basic admin stuff and the agency decided my niche was public sector so ended up doing odds and sods for the NHS, after 2 weeks got offered a 6 month (ended up being 12 month) temping gig as a PA for some Directors and stuff in the NHS, was on £7.50 an hour, not great but enough to tide me over and I liked the work, it was like giving my brain a holiday for a year and it was pretty low stress compared to where I'd been.
After a year I got a new job in another NHS organisation and 4 years later I've hopped about various jobs but I'm on decent-ish money in a decent job doing good things. As ever in the NHS my job is not secure and I could find the axe falls again in the next 12 months, but if it does I'll polish up my cv and go temping again, it's no big deal.
I think being made redundant is like life pressing alt-control-delete and giving you the opportunity to restart things. Embrace it!:staradmin0 -

Thank you so much for your cheery thoughts, how very kind of you. Do you work in the NHS perchance? I bet you work for NHS HR don't you which explains why you know exactly when the axe will fall on the brand new hospital I work in, yes it makes perfect sense to close down a brand new state of the art hospital with a months notice given to the local community. It also explains your indepth knowledge if NHS maternity policy.
Well done, p!ss off a pregnant lady, who, if you'd have bothered to read my post properly you'd have gathered is very open to redundancy and change etc and was highlighting in a nice way just what a positive thing it can be. Still if they do decide to close a brand new hospital in 4 weeks without public consultation then no doubt I'll be ever so glad you've given me the heads up.:staradmin0 -
Might be worthwhile taking out an insurance policy that covers redundancy as it will pay X amount for a year, read the small print though and if you meet the criteria then go for it.0
