British Credit Trust say NO as my PPI was arranged by the car dealer

Today i recieved my 1st knock back off the finance company who I paid PPI to which i did not need or want.
They states that upon investigation it appears that I opted for this particular paypent protection policy at the time of the finance agreement; therefore, the insurance was actually agreed by the dealer. They go on to say that this is confirmed by my statement on the FOS complaint form.
I do believe that it is confirmed on my FOS complaint form but i also state that i had no choice but to take the PPI if i wanted the loan.
They tell me to make my complaint to the car dealer who is no longer around.
Can anyone shine any light on the matter for me please.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike
What year did you take this out?
Just wondered it you could make a claim through the financial compensation scheme (FSCS), many of us have had to go this direction if the actual company who went bust etc, but only if they were regulated/governed by the FSA.
You can give the name of the car company if you want to, so this can be checked out, but otherwise check for more info on the FSCS website.
http://www.fscs.org.uk/
Even if they are not listed with them yet, they may still be on their register.
If not, then contact the financial ombudsman service (FOS) who will possibly suggest another direction, with many of us its then been with the underwriter/insurer, but do get advice first from them.

We also have a thread of reclaims made through the FSCS, about various companies.

Hope this helps, but don't give up on this yet, good luck.;)
