Help! What to put in my flower bed?

Hi, I have a flower bed outside my flat which needs some TLC and sprucing up.

I'm planning on pulling out the green bush thing that is in the middle and is ugly as sin, also pulling out the remains of the mint that had been left to go mad (I pulled 2 bin bags worth out of the flower bed in March). I've also got a hedge like bush that I'm going to trim back - que lots of bush trimming jokes from the BF :silenced:

Can antyone give me an idea of what I can put in there to make it look presentable, as you might have gessed already I don't have a clue but am willing to trot along to the garden centre with a list.

My mum mentioned bedding plants but I don't know what I should be looking/asking for? Also, can I shove a rose bush in there or are they more suited to green fingered peeps that know what their upto?

Thanks

Now is an ideal time to plant spring bulbs, obvious choice is daffodils, you can get a large mixed bag for around a fiver[5kg from Lidl on offer from today]

Bedding, not really a good time of year, but winter flowering pansies would help keep it cheerful, although called winter flowering the main flush of flowers is Spring, so along with your daffs, come Spring it will be pleasant reminder of all the hard work you did this Autumn

Roses, no problems, not really too difficult, and very forgiving of mistreatment, get a bush one, not a standard [a standard is one on a long leg, about 3 or feet high]. Most roses sold are bush anyway

Ohhh, that sounds simple enough, thanks!
I will come back on Monday and let you know how it's gone.

    Thanks!

PS, you could also plant some crocus bulbs, in shops now

Remember to plant the daffs a decent depth, not just plonked in

I would request Sarah Raven's Autumn Catalogue. Although I have only bought two packs of seeds from there, the free catalogue has planting instructions and ideas for SO many winter plants. I got all my bulbs from either J Parker or poundland just from the recommendations in her catalogue and saved a fortune :) Bit cheeky but still.......
