Stacking a fridge and a freezer

We have just bought a house that has a space for a fridge freezer. We are skint and I know someone that might be getting rid of their fridge and freezer (seperate). Could I stack the fridge on top of the freezer or the other way round?
Thanks

Well I guess it can be done, the only problem I can see is the fans and pump at the bottom of the fridge/freezer. Do they need and clearing to be stacked?
Will the pump heat up the appliance below? I'm not sure maybe you could leave a gap between for air to circulate? Pehaps some wood could do the job?

Yes, as long as you allow sufficient ventilation. We have a fridge sitting above a freezer, not directly on top but on a shelf/piece of worktop. We have about 2cm space either side to the nearest cupboards and about 20 cm above the top appliance. The shelf does not go right back to the wall, but stops about 5 cm short to allow heat from the back of the freezer to rise and escape. This rising heat does not seem to affect the fridge above. The arrangement has been in place 4 years now and works well.0

it will be fine. We had to stack our fridge on our freezer for a few weeks when we moved and were waiting for our new fridge freezer. We had no problems.0

In my garage I have my old freezer on top of my old fridge with no problems now for around 2 years0

We have been in outr house for 13 years and have our fridge on top of our freezer.
They say you aren't supposed to but everything has been fine.
Think you need a small space between but the little legs on the fridge has given us a few centimetres.Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -
Having a large family in a small house, I have a fridge on top of a freezer and another worktop height fridge on top of the 2 of them, have done for years, also a microwave on top of a microwave, two barbecues and in two of the bedrooms we have bunkbeds for four of our sons, in my garage I have a mezzanine floor for extra storage, all kitchen wall units have 2-4 shelves but we wont move as the kids are gradually moving out.....moral :- If you are a single parent of 4 dont marry a single parent of 3!0

Depending how strong the top of the lower appliance is it may be worth putting a piece of chipboard/mdf on it to distribute the load.
Also be careful you cant pull the top alliance off. When I had mine stacked with the freezer on top, sometimes there seemed to a slight vacuum when you tried you open the door and you had to tug quite hard to open the door. As the top of the fridge was so shiny it nearly slid off the first time so I put a bracket in front of the feet & it was fine after that!0 -
Don't forget to check out freecycle for household items if you are short of money. You can pick up some good stuff there. It's where I now get rid of most of my electrical stuff since learning about it from this site. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I stacked a fridge on top of a freezer in my first flat. It was great until the fridge door fell off and smacked me in the face!!!!They took my signature away!!!!0
