...typically adds on 70p or so to each ticket over the face value at the box office. Not much, but it really ticks me off! Online transactions save retailers money as we are doing their job for them. Every other outlet I can think of either charges the same or less for online purchases. How and why did cinemas decide to be different?

I agree. It really bugs me...ALL these "service" charges, ie also for events tickets sites too.0

It's probably down to that buying tickets online means there is less of a chance you having to go to the kiosk to buy overpriced popcorn/fizzy syrup, they they charge a small figure (which okay a part will go towards card processing fees) to make a little extra profit0
-
Well dont buy the tickets online then,
yes buying the tickets at the kiosk can limit your chances of a seat but thats life, ive only not got into 1 film because it was full0 -

Are you being forced to buy online ? Probably not, so don't buy them that way and then whinge about it when you can easily avoid the charge !0 -

You're doing it all wrong!
Pay for cinema tickets?! No thanks. Sign up to the MSE free tickets thread and go for nothing"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Irks me too but when I turn up for an Orange Wednesday, I go to the self service screen thing and pay 2 full price tickets rather than stand in that hoofing great big queue.
The one which does annoy me is Theatre Tickets where you have a selection of options, Post, Email or pickup but all cost the same amount extra.
The Post option has NEVER worked for me, the tickets never arrive so I end up picking them up from the theatre anyway.0 -
I will only buy tickets online if I suspect I'm going to what'll be a sell-out screening and then it's worth the extra 70p to know there isn't a chance of me wasting a journey.0

You think 70p per ticket is bad? I take it you've not bought concert tickets online then.....0
