Jal (non-existent) computer

Right, excuse me for a moment while I vent my frustration at www.jal.co.uk...

My computer went kapput over chrimbo and as a student doing computing I needed to get hold of one cheaply and quickly. Ordered one from Jal on 8/9 jan and was told it would get delivered 22 Jan (2 weeks into term)...not perfect but hey-ho...asked if I'd get a phone call at around 22 to confirm delivery...

phoned up on 21 jan (about 1 o'clock) as I hadn't heard from them....then the problems began..."we can't find your order on the system" !?!? "um...excuse-me??" - did it just magically disappear from there computer system!?!? Was told he would look for it and give me a call back...um ok? i guess that means I'm not getting it tomorrow then? we'll see....Didn't hear back for an hour so called back (2 o'clock now), was told he was still looking - around the whole of stoke-on-trent maybe?? - and would get a call back. Get that horrible feeling in my stomach that I would have to wait another 3 weeks for my computer. Finally get a call back at 3 o'clock...2 hours after my original call!!...to be told the computer had been found! yey!!! - it was in the stock room all along - "so I'll be getting it tomorrow then?" (sigh with relief)..."um, no, our courier doesn't deliver on saturday"...what the ?!? so

a) why/how was it booked for a sat??

b) thanks for phoning to tell me of your mistake!

(no apology at all as yet either!)

"ok so i'll be getting it on monday/tuesday then?"

..."oh there's no monitor for it yet either"

i see!! obviously it takes more than 3 weeks to deliver a monitor. how silly of me! - i presume the person is carrying it from china/taiwan!

(also, thanks for phoning me to tell me again!!)

ok so i arrange for delivery on wednesday when the monitor has turned up

....and so to wednesday...

take the day off uni...in my last year so obviously don't really need to do any work :(

...gets to midday...no computer....(sigh)...

phone up again and guess what...it hasn't been sent out!!

thanks once again for calling me to let me know!!!!

am told the reason is there is still no monitor (!?!?)...even more p***ed off....arrange for delivery thursday (preferably after 5 - could at least do that for me couldn't they? - we'll see) - no monitor coming, but can use old one from broken pc

take thursday afternoon off (missing 3 lectures - again, last year so who cares?)...computer arrives at 12 (which is, by all accounts, after 5 in the morning)

set up computer and am (not) surprised to find a note saying no speakers...will send later!

check invoice for date - 21st Jan!!!! the day I phoned up first of all to see if it was being delivered on 22nd......grrrrrrrrrr!

now before you give this fantastic company a round of applause....there's more....


after less than a week....computer broke...oh great (no monitor or speakers by this stage of course!)

phone up to arrange collection for last friday...take day off, despite urgent project work needing to be done (i suppose it is the last year so doesn't really matter too much)....and.....phone up at 9:30 (when they open...slackers!) to check it's getting picked up.....guess what...no record of this....will check and call back (another 2 hours later).....nope it's not gonna happen (i could go into more detail here but i'm bored of this now)...basically another day wasted, and still no speakers & monitor

supposed to be getting picked up this morning from g/f's work....we'll see....

no apology or compensation, 3 days lossed of uni, money taken and no goods at the moment, worst customer service i've ever dealt with (apart from cpw, which is in a league of it's own)

    i would never buy from a company i have never heard of and to start with the website looks like a 10 year old made it!

    Sorry to hear about your problem, how much was your pc and what were the specs?

    JAL computers are often recommended by PC PRO magazine. I'd suggest you get in contact with the magazine, perhaps to the 'helping hand' page where they sometimes name and shame suppliers. Might also be worth mentioning this to JAL next time you call - might help to focus them a little.
