Help with a new Tel for my business 0845 / 02920 ???

Hi,

I have use this site many times and joined the forum just today.

Well for once I need help and was sure I would get some useful advice on here.

The short of it is this I am not sure wether to use an 0845 / a local 01443 (Pontypridd) tel no (ideally I would like to use a 02920 number) Cardiff.

I want to divert calls to my mobile which is with Orange, I am not really sure of the best opition and as my business is going live soon I really need to get the ball rolling.

Anyone have any advice?

I would like to use an 02920 no that doesn't charge so much to divert to my mobile or likewise maybe an 0845 no again that doesn't charge to much to divert.

Many Thanks..

Its always going to cost more if you point a number (landline or non geographical) at a mobile.

You can get a free 029 cardiff no with free voicemail and no line rental charges from www.sipgate.co.uk and just pay the divert cost to a mobile 9.9p a min.
  • Thanks Old Grey Fox,

Is that 9.9p a min? Still expensive but cheaper than having a secertary I guess, wish there was a better deal seem so harsh the charges forwarded to a mobile no.

Would be good if I could just get a local no for Cardiff or an 0845 to forward to my mobile on a more competitive deal.

Maybe someone else might have some ideas too.

    Kind Thanks again..

I would go for the 02920 anyday - mainly because 02 numbers are cheaper to call and are inclusive on many phone contracts.
Some more modern mobiles can recieve VOiP calls direct to them over the data network (providing you have unlimited data) and so Sipgate would be a good option.
The forum on this site may help tell you why you shouldn't have an 0845 no - https://www.saynoto0870.com
If your worried about the cost of forwarding you could always answer the call and say I'll ring you back immediately to use your mobile minutes instead of it costing you on sipgate.
    Just a few ideas there!
  • Hey Samwsmith,

I am starting to realise people dont like dont like 0845 nos so I am starting to think about my working area of 02920 in Cardiff.

I also thought of calling customers back too.

Seems I have to weigh it up, and it would seem 02920 is the way to go. My phone wont work with voip.

Would it work if I had the number forward to my home no with talk talk and then if I have talk talk number forward to my mobile?

I know thats going the long way round but could that work?

    Regards & Thanks..

It could work, have you looked at sipgate and the various hardware phones you can get for it?
As would you not be charged twice for forwarding - once to your home number, and then again by talk talk (and assuming that mobile numbers cost more than 9.9p on talk talk!).
On Sipgate you can set ring options - so it could ring home for ten seconds, then mobile for 10 etc etc at the same time and whichever answers first:

If you want to spend a bit of money (£15 a month with 60 forwarding mins) you could try this:
    http://www.axiatel.com/gb/en/virtual-switchboard/index.php
Which would provide an IVR (Menu) - or you could simply have press 1 to be connected which would put the caller on hold whilst it tries your various numbers.
  • Hey Again,

Seems Sipgate maybe the way to go if not something similar, I know ill get charged 9.9p a min but there will be times where I will be home so It might not be as expensive as I was thinking. Could for example with Sipgate set a 5 sec forward on home no. and if I am home I could answer it and if not then it will come to my mobile.

Only draw back with Sipgate seems they don't offer a choice of numbers which is a shame..

I got offered this for a Cardiff no:
    02920006796
I know there's only one choice but it's free!
You probably have the right thinking about the 5 seconds then forwarding on.

Thats not a bad tel no to be fair ok I think it really maybe the way to go.

Thanks for your help you sure you don't work for Sipgate? lol

    Kind Thanks..

Does not matter where you live just offered me a 029 number and i live miles from Wales.

Given your not paying any connection fee or line rental or call divert fee ,paying 9.9p a minute for diverted leg of call seems good value to me.

If choosing a reasonable number is important try http://soho66.co.uk/7459/all/1/Call-charges.aspx ,but they will charge you £2 a month rental and call charges to mobile are slightly dearer peak but cheaper offpeak.
