How to stop grass growing in alley way

Hi ppl

I share an alleyway to my garage and the grass is growing quite long down their.

One of the neighbours on the end occassionally trims it but it's not really their job too so I was wondering if someone can recommend something to kill the grass/weeds to stop them growing?

Cheers

WJUK

  • Hi, WJUK! SkintChick is right with the pathclear (it's generic name is glyphosate, btw - I buy it in a big bottle, then dilute as required.

However, have you an idea what you'll do when the grass is dead? If you don't mow the strip, it'll be weeds by this time next year, so you'll still be mowing, or weeding.

How about covering it with a membrane that lets water through, then gravel on top. That'll kill the grass at the same time.

Sorry, without seeing it, it's difficult to give a good answer.

Jeyes Fluid and Bleach are suppost to be good weedkillers, never tired them though. Roundup and pathclear are really effective.

  • Cover it with some rocksalt - like they use for gritting roads. It kills everything and nothing will grow there for ages until it eventually is washed out through rainfall.
Found out this when some nice kids thought it would be fun to empty the grit bin on one of our lawns.that was in march and it is still dead/weedfree.

  • tried a path & patio cleaner?

i help develop products like this at my work and it contains a fair bit of hydrochloric acid which should be good in killing the grass.

Yep. Sophiesmums' right - salt's a great weedkiller. You can use ordinary table salt - get it in plastic bags of about 1kg in the supermarket it's cheap, non-toxic and effective.
  • White vingegar is very good too.
