You're now actually making things worse by making all these applications.

What do the companies know about you that they don't - nothing and that is the problem. Having no/little previous credit is not a good thing as you cannot demonstrate an ability to manage credit. Even things like a mobile phone contract help.

I think your only option now is take out one of the 'credit builder' cards.

Just the way it is I'm afraid.

Yep, by all these applications you have completely killed your credit history for the moment. To the lenders you look desperate.
Wait another 6 months before applying for another card.

And card with 39.9% might not be desirable, but by paying it in full every month you wouldn't pay any interest and you would build some credit hisotry again.

    Are you employed or self-employed?

Virgin (who tried to "introduced" me to Vanquis, a card with 39.99% APR, err no thanks)

If you pay it off every month the APR is 00.00% !

    I am employed.

I have just checked with Experian and Equifax... curiously enough only one lender has actually checked my report; Tesco. There is no record of any searches by any other lenders.

There is history of credit on my report with my previous credit card provider. There is still 10 months record of good history on the report.

Could be, I wish I knew what though. As far as Tesco and Virgin were concerned it wasn't input error, but their criteria.

Incidentally; if it is an autofail due to input error will that lender autofail any subsequent applications for the next 6 months? Not that I intend applying again for anything, I am just curious.

I would love a tangible explanation of rejection from a lender, but doubt I will get one.

Hmm if they are not carrying out the search then its one of their criteria you are failing to meet which is auto failing you...let me think.

Off the top of my head the first things that springs to mind is residency criteria, do you reside in, for the purpose of taxes and or pay taxes to the British government?
