People cringe here all the time how inhabitable UK has become lately.
Yet, most are us are unwilling to accept USA is a better place to live

In 2008 the US gave 300bn (about 193bn GBP) or about 2.8 times as much as a proportion of GDP or 3.25 times as much per head.
Edit: Meant to post this link: http://www.philanthropy.iupui.edu/News/2009/docs/GivingReaches300billion_06102009.pdf ,for which I admit I did not check the details.
This link posted later shows different Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden and Ireland seem to be the most generous though, both per capita and as a proportion of GDP.

Sorry if I have missed something here, but dont people get sick and flooded in the UK? I agree the weather here is less extreme, but we haven't half had a lot of rain recently.adouglasmhor wrote: »Until you get sick, or your home gets flooded etc. etc.0 -

Yes you have missed something really obvious. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Thanks, I thought that must be the case. It usually happens, I just dive in to a discussion on flooding (no pun intended!) and get my facts wrong. It does seem to flood quite often in Wales, so I guess we were comparing England with the US.adouglasmhor wrote: »Yes you have missed something really obvious.0 -
The point was about the support if you are ill or if you are made homeless in the UK compared to the USA.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Oh I see. Thought it was about the weather. I've seen pictures of people sleeping in their cars in the US so I guess maybe they are bit more relaxed about clamping. On the other hand we have picnic areas so if you have a tent... sorted! So my guess would be swings and roundabouts really. Apart from tornadoes. Now they are really bad.adouglasmhor wrote: »The point was about the support if you are ill or if you are made homeless in the UK compared to the USA.0
