Dear Forum Participants
My daughter has been a victim of identify fraud. The outline is: whilst away at university in student accommodation someone opened an account with a high street retailer in her name. This was only discovered when she applied to her bank for an overdraft. The bank advised her to check her credit report and in doing so discovered the problem.
It has been established by the credit agency and the retailer that the account was opened using the title, “Mrs’, my daughter is a “Miss”. The date of birth given is also incorrect and my daughter was not living at that address at the time.
The retailer has passed on the debt to a debt collection agency that my daughter contacted, and she was told that debt had been passed back to the retailer because the debt could not be recovered.
My daughter’s credit report still shows a default but she has added a statement as recommended by the credit agency.
My question is: what she do to completely clear her name and restore her credit report to its full satisfactory status?
