splinter of wood in yoghurt

I purchased some pots of yoghurts from Sainsbury and whilst eating one discovered a splinter of coloured wood approx 10mm long in the yoghurt.
I emailed a letter of complaint, together with an image of the splinter, to the manufacturer. They came back within the hour asking me to send it to a "freepost" address so that they can look at it.
I am nervous about doing this as it could disappear. If I do send it I would do it by recorded delivery as a minimum. But should I send it atall as then the evidence is gone? If I don't send it they cannot investigate, what should I do.?

Take a photo and then either send the photo or keep the photo as evidence and send the splinter recorded..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Is it definitely wood? What flavour of yoghurt? No chance it could be maybe part of a pit or stone or something? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

It's the latest in digestive aids. Wood contains all the nutrients we need, is tasty and good for the bowels. They're trialling it in yoghurts apparently."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Why are you afraid of losing the evidence. Are you looking to take this further, ie, compensation.0

I am not afraid of losing the evidence, I am concerned that the splinter could get lost if you follow the difference!
Luckily the splinter did me no lasting damage but could have a young child. If there was a splinter in one yoghurt then it came from somewhere. If they do not receive it they cannot investigate. Not interested in compensation or prosecution. However, if they want to refund the cost and add a small gesture to say thanks for bringing it to their attention that is okay by me. My concern is that they eradicate any problem for the benefit of future customers.0 -

Phone the council and report it to their trading standards/environmental health, let them deal with it.
If nothing else you should get a refund.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
