Hi
I have done a search of the forum and cannot seem to find an answer that clarifys this i really hope it has not been answered before because i do understand how annoying it is when people do not look for the answer themselves. a rough break down of me:-
i am a single parent my son is 7
i have just been accepted onto a foundation degree course it is classed as a full time course even though i only have to be in the uni 2 days a week
i am currently not working although the same day as getting on the college course i was offered a work at home comission based job. with the option to invoice and self assessment tax return or go through the PAYE of the company
i understand i am able to apply for student loans and grants as a single parent
my question is, if i work the comission based job ill earn approx £150 - £200 a week and be around the 16 hour tax credit threshold. am i allowed to claim working tax credits and child tax credits as a student and also get the loans or will i have to chose one or the other? and should i or shouldnt i go though the PAYE i dont know what difference this will make but the MD of the company said i could do either?
hope this all makes sense and there is enough information there

You can claim student funding and WTC at the same time, as long as you are working for at least 16 hours per week.
Doesn't your Foundation Degree require a work placement or could you do this as well as your home based job?0 -
thanks thats great
yes it requires a work placement but not until the second year so i have 12 months to see if i can juggle everything
