If you think that you can stay on IB for life, dream on, with the changes that are coming in the next few years no one can say that for sure and since you get so little DLA you are unlikely to pass for ESA when people with severe disabilities are being refused it.

You want an angle to cheat the system and there isnt one, you are not eligable for IS, end of but since you seem to want to do it fraudulently maybe you can tell other people how to do it?

The benefits system obviously isn't perfect and how it is awarded on points etc. Trying to fit people into little boxes and award points etc. Some will fulfill a higher level with lesser problems and vice versa.

Words like 'cheat' and 'fraudulently' are inappropiate. Lets just say when I go, the doctors have actually appologised for calling me in. I don't see long term benefits as a career choice like some do. For example you have to be better off being back in work than benefits. If not you can stay on them, my view is, get a better job! And working tax credits etc I won't get into as is going off topic.

No, paying towards your own mortgage is never a qualifier for income support regardless of your circumstances. If you can't afford your home you are expected to give it up and find somewhere cheaper, there is a specific rule that protects income from a house sale for a period of time if the money is going towards another house (for you to live in, not for a rental/business property).

For someone who has seen advisors and done research you haven't really got a clue how this whole thing is going to work?

Please ignore where the deposit is coming from, it's not from a previous sale.

I haven't really got anywhere with the advisors I have contacted so far as they don't really seem to know thereselves. I need to find someone who knows all the ins and outs, but haven't found this help yet. Yes I know I don't have all the answers, hence why I am asking here.

You still have not elaborated on how you intend to be given a mortgage with such limited income? I know the ins and outs of SMI, but am not willing to give advice to someone who is unwilling to help others in the same situation.
    Gone ... or have I?

The Financial guy I have spoke to said most lenders won't lend to people on benefits without the SMI already awarded. And the DWP won't award SMI without a mortgage. So bit of a catch 22 situation which ties in with yours and other peoples views.

But there is at least one lender he's aware of that does, now I didn't get the name. Just got basic details of rate, early redemption, arrangement. Before I can go any further obviously need to see if I will be entitled to SMI. I can find out the providers name gladly next week for others. It is a FSA regulated firm.

So you don't have a mortgage offer? You cannot be assessed for SMI without a mortgage (and ownership of a property), so you cannot get the mortgage. Earlier in the thread you stated your mortgage had already been sorted, this is clearly not the case.

I have had a copy of the leaflet IS8 http://www.dsdni.gov.uk/is8.pdf which seems to indicate that once housing costs are factored in the amount the law says I need to live on might entitle myself to IS. Is this right? (It's near the bottom)
You do realise that leaflet is for people in NORTHERN IRELAND.

No I don't have a firm offer from the mortgage company, but I fully expect to get it hence why I said it's sorted. I will be able to get a mortgage, this isn't my question.

It's how do I go about claiming SMI towards it. Obviously don't want to take out a mortgage first only to find out afterwards I can't claim SMI.

Maybe you could elaborate on whether in my current situation I would be entitled to SMI or there is any way I could change it for the purpose please?

Yes, but I imagined it was the same for England as it's the same scheme and leaflet id (Was just the first link on Google)

    On the direct website http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_180321

    This part;
    SMI – changes from 5 January 2010

From 5 January 2010 SMI help was extended and you may now be able to qualify for SMI if you:
-claimed Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, or income-related Employment and Support Allowance on or after 5 January 2009
-were not entitled to that benefit until your housing costs became payable.

Is this part of any relevance to my situation?

And for a brief period after Jan '09 I was actually in receipt of IS as there had been a !!!! up with my medical records and things and I was taken off IB. This was succesfully appealed and IB re-instated and a back payment to cover the difference. Would this entitle me?
