Pointing

Hi,
I've tried twice before to get recommendations for re-pointing my house and got no, NO replies. So I thought I'd give it one more go in the hope that somebody different might be reading. If you've had re-pointing done and been really pleased with the work can you please give me a name? It's something I really need to attend to soon before the house falls down, but I'm scared.

Thanks,
Steve.

  • Sorry I don't know of anyone who does re pointing but I think I probably need some done myself. I also know that feeling when you're scared your house might fall down so **hugs** & good luck!

I'm in the same boat. Can't get recommendations anywhere.

A neighbour did get repointing done recently by A M Rendall from Carryduff (there was a contractor sign up when the work was being done). I thought 'at last, maybe I've found someone' .... and then I watched the work over the weeks that the scaffolding was up. They took forever to repoint the side of the house and it looked a bit of a mess. They used loads of mortar when as far as I know it should be carefully done and finished in a way that allows water to run off quickly. So, I'm back to square one again.

Honkycat, somebody must know a contractor that will do a good job. Keep posting!

I also need my pointing done (S. Belfast / Lisburn) but am getting to the position where I may just hire a gun and do it myself. Seems to be around £20 a day to hire the gun, and it is apparently 5 times faster than doing it manually. I reckon it would take ~3-4 days to do the whole house, so it might be worth considering.

I know Jenny, you see some complete messes as you drive/walk around so a recommendation and inspection of previous work is essential I think. Easier said than done though!
I wouldn't go near a job like that Bingo Bango... you're a better man than me!

    Very good, conscientious builder
  • Thanks. What area is he in? Does he do general building or specialise in pointing?
