Inbuilt fridgefreezer broken after less than 3 years

Hi,

I moved into a new build shared ownership flat 2 years and 9 months ago. The flat came ready with in built kitchen and white goods. The fridge freezer (which is in one of the kitchen units) stopped working last week, an engineer has come and looked and said it can't be fixed (something to do with a gas leak). The appliance only came with a 1 year gaurantee (there was no option to extend this offered). The fridge freezers retail value is £549 - do I have any consumer rights that I can take up with the manufacturers? I can't see how they can sell a fridge for that amount that lasts for such a short time...

Any info gratefully received!!
