Far too many wimpy people on here keep saying things like "it's in the T&C you just have to live with it"
You can often get companies to change their minds if you fight a little, I've won many a battle that way.
So OP stand up for yourself, just because it's in their T&C's doesn't mean it's right.
If it is in the T & C and the expiry date is clearly marked, it's the companies fault that the OP didn't bother to use the gift card in time?0 -

They haven't technically done anything wrong.
It's like me trying to use a club card voucher that has expired at tesco's, unless i keep an eye on the date, if it goes past then tough..
My mum used to work at somerfields, and left just before she was due to retire, whilst she worked there she had books of vouchers to use at the stores, she was allowed to nominate a family member to use them as well, now i lost my book, 12 years ago, and only just recently found it, i rang co op, who now run somerfields, and they said that unfortunately there are out of date and worth nothing, £69.50 worth of vouchers (i only used 50p) you can't use them, but I'm not on here complaining about it as they have expired. Basically my loss, I misplaced them, my problem. :rotfl:0 -
The OP's grand mother gave £100.00 for those vouchers, why should they expire, money doesn't.
Vouchers are a waste of time anyway, give cash I say you can spend that anywhere and it wont expire because of someones T&C's.0 -
The card states its expiry date, but you didn't believe it would expire? What more do they need to do to warn you?0

I don't think the OP has a leg to stand on, but if I was them, I would press them to explain why they need to have an expiry date on them.
Can anyone think of why they would have an expiry date on them?
All I can think of is that the cards are issued with all/some of the shops being part of the scheme (I don't know the scheme, so assuming how it works). But because shops close and new ones open fairly frequently, it would be unfair on the new stores to have to accept the vouchers.0 -

They have taken you hook line and sinker. It is NOT like a Tesco Clubcard voucher. The voucher is a freebie giveaway - alright it is a scheme where you have to go and buy loads of stuff, you spend £100's on stuff and get £1's in vouchers, but the major part of your spend you get goods you walk away with, so the voucher would be no great loss.
The situation we are talking about here is where OP's gran has put her own £100 into a voucher and it has been swallowed up by the scheme.
The fact that you seem to think that this is OK bothers me. Years ago no one would have started a scheme which took money like this, because they would have expected an extremely negative reaction. But these days too many people let it pass.
But, hey, we live in ripoff Britain and the reason seems to be that too many of its citizens are happy to be ripped off. Perhaps it is the greater awareness of Consumer Law and people equating 'legal' with 'ethical' or 'right'. Just because it is legal it is not necessarily ethical.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. For accounting reasons? They need to balance the books at some point, so it's fair to assume if someone hasn't spent it after a period of time, the card could be lost, not wanted etc. It would make cash flow forecasts difficult if you were holding credits open for an indefinite period of time. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Altough I fully understand what you say it shouldn't be that way.
Money raised from the sale of gift vouchers should be kept in a seperate account and only drawn on when a voucher is used. If the voucher is not used then it's not the companys money, they will have the interest anyway.0
