hi all,
i paid £2160 to have a monoblock driveway done. (i bought all the materials also).
the driveway is a mess, there are weeds growing through and great pools of water collect when its raining.
the boy was supposed to come back to put sand over it and only sent someone over to do a little bit and since then he has not been near me or answering my calls.
he sent along another guy who does driveways, telling him it was a one day job to fix and would he go look at it.
well, he came, he saw and he was appalled. he has told me the whole driveway needs lifted, levelled and relaid. there is nota straight line of blocks and not level at any part. his estimate was it should cost about £3000 to fix. my driveway is very large approx 150 sq.m.
so again i tried to contact the boy who did it and no reply. i contacted consumer direct who have advised me to write him a letter sent by recorded delivery explaining what i want done within a certain timescale and if no response or attempt to rectify the drive then i will take matters further. i sent the letter which has been attempted to be delivered but he is not picking it up from the mail office, i have been checking with the reference number provided.
so what do i do now and what is my next move? what are my rights in this? all help and suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

You call him a boy. At £2160 against £3000, it looks like you were trying to get a boy to do a man's job at a boy's pay. But if he made out he could do a man's job, I suppose you are entitled to that.
Send your letter again, ordinary post, and get a certificate of posting. Have you indicated that you will take this to court?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Oh dear, doesn't look good.
Did the drive initially look okay? If not, then you really shouldn't have paid; getting money back 'after the fact' is always going to be difficult - particularly if he's spent it and has few assets.
As mentioned, write to him and if he doesn't resolve get this second guys opinion in writing, take some photos and proceed via Small Claims Court.
From the sounds of it, I wouldn't be very hopeful though, sorry. Good luck though.0 -
Send the letter with proof of postage from 2 different post offices. This will be accepted by a court as proof of delivery.0

Was it a home/business address you sent it to?
Have you looked to see what their registered business address is on companies house?
May come to nothing but always wise to check. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
