Scam from 0787 number?

Hi all
Today my housephone rang, and it said "you have a text message" etc, when it reads them out - press 1 to listen to the message.
I listened, and it said something like the following: "If a customer was sitting next to you on a train, would you expect them to talk to you?" then it said something unintelligable about a banking advisor.
The number was an 0787 number, which I called back but it rang and rang, so I hung up thinking it might be a scam. What worries me is that my other half is a banking advisor; bit creepy - we're ex directory but we have had a couple of marketing calls, and calls from a debt collection agency (for the guy who used to live here). The debt collection people send texts too but it's a landline number then.
Every scam call mention I've seen online though, when mobile type numbers, only seems to be the 070 ones, not 078.
Should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to check? If I ring BT could they tell me right now on my account whether it was a premium rate number? I'm wondering if it might have been one of those where it plays a ring-tone back to you but it's really connected to a premium line...
Advice welcomed
thanks

I'd never have called back but, rest assured, all 0787 numbers are standard mobile numbers and, from a BT landline, cost 12½p/minute daytime and 7½p/minute evenings/nights to call - see HERE.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Wow I'm a tool - if only I'd listened a little longer I'd have heard my sister in law's voicemail kick in.
I SO overreacted to that! Felt like I was a teenager getting prank calls again. How embarassing.
Thanks for your quick and detailed response though, much appreciated!
