i would say ebay is your best option, rare vinyl still goes for good prices on there. random stuff that no one has heard of never sells though, and is best going in the bin. thats where most of my old records went!

Try the free 24 hour trial on here: http://www.rarerecordpriceguide.com/ affiliated with Record Collector magazine.

Unless your Beatles or Elvis records are rare pressings, they're unlikely to be worth large sums (although still collectible) as they would all have got to number 1 and sold in large quantities back in the sixties.

Some of the more obscure stuff may well be valuable as it's more rare - but as the previous poster says, the rarer stuff probably won't sell as well on Ebay.

If you buy a copy of Record Collector magazine (monthly) or keep an eye out in the local newspaper, you might see an advert for a record fair in your area. Vinyl is still highly collectible and there are record fairs all over the country most weekends.

Take along your records and chat to the dealers, although don't accept the first price you're offered (they might try to take advantage). You could also have a look at the stalls at the record fair and see what price others are going for.

Record Collector magazine also has pages of ads and listings for records, which will give you a feel for how much things might be worth. It's surprising just how much some do go for! Although these tend to be the limited editions or special sleeves or coloured vinyl, etc, etc.

If you go down the Ebay route, sell your records separately, rather than in a mixed random batch. Lumping a Cliff Richard record in with a Led Zep album may not attract buyers for example! Ebay may well be a good route for the more common records in your collection.

Let me know what the Beatles records are and I might be able to help you with some guidance on prices.

    Good luck!

"This Boy" was the b-side to "I Want To Hold Your Hand" - is it that one?

To show you how much things can vary, depending on the pressing you've got, look at this: http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=45648 It's a listing for the first pressing of the Help! LP and worth £195. However most later pressings are likely to be worth a lot less, so it's worth taking note of the markings, etc, on the vinyl and sleeve when searching online or at record fairs. Some collectors will pay huge sums of money for little differences like this!

eil tend to over charge in my experience (going by Record Collector/RRPG prices) so they're not the best place to look for values/prices. Rest is good advice on different pressings affecting value/how much people are willing to pay.

http://www.popsike.com/ is a good site for seeing how much records have sold for on ebay.

As a previous poster mentioned, Record Collector is the best place to work out value. They certainly used to publish a Rare Record Guide each year with price guides - my local library always had this, so it might be worth going along and checking it out - it should be in the reference section.

Check the completed listings on eBay too. You can be very surprised at how much some vinyl goes for, especially the obscure stuff! But if you do list, make sure you grade the vinyl and sleeve accurately as condition is everything.

still havent got round to selling them but thankyou for all your replies, did email a few shops but only a couple got back to me and was not really interested, think i may just list them as a job lot on ebay and see what happens, they are not all intact sleeves but most of them are, theres around 130 records i think so will just see what happens.

Speaking as someone who sometimes buys records, I have to say that I cannot imagine bidding on a job lot of more than a hundred records. The postage alone would be tidy sum, and very few people are likely to want all (or even most) of them.
