accelerator sticking
I have owned my toyota carina 1.8 "m" reg for a couple of months now, and there is a slight sticking on the accelerator, it seems to be from the pedal. When depressing the accelerator you feel resistance and then a sudden give and then its ok for a while, sems to be mainly if the car has stood, however, its also started to do it during use, any ideas and is it safe to use.

Where have you been for the past year?!!! You say it is a Toyota and the accelerator pedal sticks...:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Ignore this. Doesn't affect vehicles of this age, nor is the actual fault similar. (That's if the Toyota fault really exists to any extent anyway....)Money_Grabber13579 wrote: »Where have you been for the past year?!!! Could be a sticky, stretched or otherwise knackered cable, or sticky throttle body. Shouldn't be expensive to sort, could be as simple as a quick spray of carb cleaner.
Take it this is petrol model?

i would disconnect the cable and find out which part is sticking, could be pedal, cable or throttle body.
if it is cable just fit a new one if pedal give it a good lube if throttle body(i doubt it is but always a chance) then it could be broken return spring.0 -
... and check that the mats aren't obstructing the pedal movement!0
