windows 7 upgrade or full version?

Options
Hi-just brought desktop pc from ebuyer with no operating system....looking on net a full version of windows 7 home is £80 but as my boy's are at school I could get upgrade professional version for £38 from 'software4students ' site. I know this is for people who have a windows system on the hard drive but researching the net it seems easy to use 'double install' method or change the reg details for pc's with no operating system ..wondering if anybody has experiences in doing this or is it better and spend a bit more and get full version??? cliff

It's not the software that costs the money it's the licence, and as far as I am aware, since Vista these operating system disks are all identical. Including a recent install I did this week from a windows 7 upgrade disk bought from PCshitWorld that had to be activated via M$ phone activation due to the clean install and a bit of techie jiggery pokery.

The only thing I can see different in Windows 7 is the fact that when you try installing from an upgrade disk it no longer prompts for the previous OS licence, which is just lazy programming if you ask me.....
But yea. the disks are the same, not sure about the downloads though.

If it were me, and I did. I would buy a disk+licence so if you want to upgrade later and buy another licence you can get it direct from M$.

P.S No idea why M$ are still playing the game of Upgrade OS's, seeing as they recommend clean installs for their operating systems. Like I said lazy programming. If you are going to upgrade then I would strongly suggest against it, and just do a clean install, there is a registry hack online that will force the OS to give you an activation key that you can then use to phone M$ and authenticate your license.
