reply to 'prove it letter' they now want confirmation of previous addresses

Hi after my previous post i have sent a prove it letter to westcott regarding a debt, they are now requesting the last three addresses we have lived at for data protection purposes. But what i dont understand is that they didnt need any 'data protection' when they were demanding the money

Should i send them this info?

Many thanks

    j. requiring an individual to supply information to prove they are not the
debtor in question, for example, driving licences, passports, full name,
    date of birth, signatures

It's not your job to prove who you are, it's their job to prove that you are the person who owes the money. Ignore it.

This letter is a reply to the prove it letter i sent last week. they are saying they can't show us proof 'til we confirm the addresses. All i want is the proof that we need to pay the debt

Anybody know how i go further, i dont want to ignore it i just want the proof with owe the debt!

They don't need you to confirm the addresses. If they are not sure that you are the person who owes the money then they should not be contacting you at all. This is just a stalling technique, they probably don't have any proof of the debt. As you said, they didn't need proof when they were asking you for the money! What's the debt for? Have you requested a CCA?

If they had a valid CCA they would have sent it. They obviously don't as they haven't sent it. Pretend you never had a letter about previous addresses and carry on with the "prove it" routine i.e. after 12+2 days send the follow up letter. I'd be very surprised if they have a valid CCA as they would have let you have it cos its their best chance of getting the money from you, isn't it?

Yes, I've just read your other thread. (Which descended into a bit of a row!)
It doesn't sound as though they have proof at all, they have probably just bought the debt from the bank and are now trying to scare you into paying it. If they had proof, they would have sent it instead of all of this waffle about previous addresses etc. You could try resending the "prove it letter" or else send them a CCA request, see the letter here....

This should stall them for a while. Remember to enclose a £1 payment, (postal order is best, or get someone else to write you a cheque)
I honestly wouldn't worry about this for now, it really doens't sound as though they have any paperwork for this. Hopefully the bank won't either! ;)
