Choice of Desktop PC

Options
All in one or conventional desktop PC?

Can anyone give advice please. Some techies say all in one PC is good but not so easy to fix if anything goes wrong.

Need advice please before our present PC dies. Thank you :)

    personally like proper desktop

dont see the point of all in one's other than if you are massivly short on space.

    in a desktop you can

get more powerful components because you can have a bigger case to help keep things cool

have much more choice of parts

    upgrade it much more easily

spend less as a lot of the cost of a all in one goes towards the design

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

I'd agree with gonzo127, for exacly the same reasons. Also, if you're budget conscious, you can pick up second hand desktops with 2ghz Pentium 4s with 512mb ram for around £50. And despite what the IT industry tells you they are perfectly capable of surfing, office work, emails etc.

On the other hand if your priorities are a quiet and small PC that stays out of the way, you can get nice nettop PCs with impressive specifications for less than £200.

But, like gonzo127 says, I'd stick with a desktop just because of the ease with which you can replace faulty parts.

Thank you for the good advice. We thought that might be the best but it's always helpful to have other people confirm it.

We're going to spend between £600 and £700. Don't do much in the way of games. Just use it for ordinary things and surfing.

well for a desktop that budget is enough to get a good gaming system, so to get something thats just going to be used to browse the net, watch iplayer and do office things you could save yourself a lot of money! as any system you buy new at the moment will be fine for it (something like this would be more than good enough http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200541 )

however if you want to spend that amount of money it would be more worth while to actually get a really good monitor so something with a IPS panel instead of the normal (cheaper) TN panels http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-U2311-Widescreen-Panel-Monitor/dp/B003R7K332/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1282813126&sr=8-1 would be a reasonable starting point

You don't need to be spending that sort of money on a desktop for what you want to do.

Do you have a screen or do you need one?

    Hi Chunter

We're beginning to realise that we don't need to spend so much.

We have a 17" monitor but are looking at something bigger
