im thinking of buying a netbook, mainly because of the lower price and portabillity, however i mainly use my laptop for editing with photoshop etc and storing my photographs, but i am unsure if a netbook would be able to do this

Photoshopping on such a small screen?? A Netbook to your spec will cost at least £250. You can get a laptop for the same.

simple answer is no. Netbooks are low power , slow and their graphic capabilities are very limited, even Blu ray movies in HD can be a bit of an issue for them.
    Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £574

Blu Ray movies would be impossible for a netbook considering they don't have optical drives, but yes, even ripped, the processor and graphics might struggle, and the screen won't be HD anyway.
OP - if you value your eyes. don't even do Photoshop on a budget full-size laptop, never mind a netbook. The horsepower is the second most important thing here, you'll wreck your eyes staring at a small or poor quality screen.

Get a decent spec netbook, and then add a bargain 19 or 21" screen for photoshop work.

This would probably still be better than paying the same amount for a laptop with a 15" screen

Except for the fact you've still got the dog slow Atom CPU. OK for doing the odd red-eye but wait until you want to apply an effect to an image produced by a 12MP camera. And if you're remotely serious about photo editing, you stay as far away from "bargain" monitors as its possible to be.

iamcornolio - did you miss the bit about portability? OP is considering a netbook for the smaller size than a laptop. I don't think carrying a netbook plus a separate monitor is more portable!
I don't know of a decent spec notebook that won't be completely outdone but a £500 notebook.

I just assumed that although portability was a criteria, this would not entail taking the laptop all over the place and using photoshop in various locations.

Photoshoping with the trackpad is soul distroying, so with a mouse comes a desk and with a desk comes the monitor!

And if you're serious about photo editing, you want something more than a netbook or laptop in any case
