Folic acid is widely available with the vitamins in all supermarkets and chemists - usually a small tub of 30 or 60 - or in blister packs in Boots. It's an iron supplement - so anyone with anaemia or similar problems would take it. Sainsbury's own version is a little white pot with yellow lid, boots is a purple box with 60 tabs in blister packs inside but loads of variety's around inc Sanatogen & Pregnacare brands.

where can i buy focil acid from please.

i've tried two chemists now and a supermarket. also is there any other reason why to take it expect being pregnant ?
You should take it when TTC because it is most important in the first eight weeks and if you wait until you know you are pregnant you've missed some of the window when it is important.

You do need folic acid normally (it's one of the B vitamins I forget what number but possibly 9?) but you don't "need" such high amounts - RDA is around 200mcg and I think you're supposed to take 400mcg when TTC and for something like the first three months of pregnancy. When I analysed my diet for a couple of weeks I ate an average of 295mcg per day but there were a couple of days when I had particularly high intakes so don't know how that compares with the average person.

    Hi girls,

How is everyone getting on? Hope you are all ok.
I am dying to know mrsvixc! No idea how you are being so restrained!

So, I think I am now in the 2WW, although I'm not holding out much hope this month. This is how it went for the last week.

    Thurs - High - BD:j
Friday - High - No BD
    Saturday - High - BD:j
Sunday - High - No BD
Monday - High - No BD
Tuesday - Peak - No BD
Wednesday - Peak - BD :j(although it was about 2am this morning, so technically Thurs! lol)
    Thurs - High

So does this mean I am now in the 2ww? I think we missed it, what does everyone else think?

Seems reasonable, 1/3 ov on 1st peak, 2/3 ov on 2nd peak, and some ov on the High after Peak:)

If you ov'd late Wed or Thu, then good chance, if Tuesday, hope your DH has super swimmers:D

Folic acid is known to reduce the risk of birth defects like spina bifida. It is recommended to take from at least 3 month before conceiving, but better late than never:)

I bought mine in sainsburys. The small tub with yellow lid skint_catt mentioned. Label says Mum to Be or something but I think it's only folic acid. They aren't expensive and the other day I saw they're doing 3 for 2 on vitamins.
