Hi everyone,

This is probably a bit of a long shot but I see in the past people have made references to Azathioprine, a drug used in Crohns/Colitis.

My partner and I were hoping to start a trying for a baby next month but he is getting cold feet as he is on Azathioprine and there have been studies linking birth defects to the use of this drug by the man during conception.

I would be really greatful to hear from anyone else who has been/is in this situation or could tell me if it is something we need to be aware of. I know he is alreasdy worried about the possibility of passing on the Crohns and am worried that coupled with this he would rather not risk having an unhealthy child.

Hello! Sorry I can't answer your question. there might be someone here who has some knowledge of the drug who you could help you but maybe you're best to go to speak to your doctor about it?

Hi I agree with emsbet that you should maybe speak to your doctor about it - you can hear stories about everything on the internet but with something as serious as a potential birth defect (and you do sound worried about it) I would speak to an expert xxx

Thanks all, am feeling a weeeeeny bit better. I just ordered a cake and cupcakes for my DS 4th birthday and individual cupcakes for my DW's 40th - both in September!

Ordering cakes clearly makes me happy! Maybe I'll look at holidays too.
