EDF calculates gas consumption in cubic feet instead of cubic meters

Hello,

Can someone help please. For several years now, EDF have been incorrectly calculating my gas bill using cubic feet. My gas meter actually measures consumption in cubic meters. In addition, the meter serial number shown on my quartely bill is incorrect.

Should I inform EDF of these errors? Have I been paying more for my gas because of this?

Many thanks.

A

Yes, you should inform EDF straight away.

If you have a metric meter and have been charged in cu ft then you have been paying roughly 3 times the amount you should have. Up to you if you tell them really ;)

    Thank you for your replies.

I have just re-calculated my last gas bill and it confirmed that I have been charged 2.83 times more Kwh than I used. It is a bit of a shock!

This has been going on for 10 years now. How do I go about clearing this mess and hopefully getting some money back form EDF for the overpayments?

Does the meter still have the sticker giving the old meter reads when it was changed ? How far back have you got bills for ? I would start by gathering up as much info as you can then phone and tell them and go from there. You will need every bill recalculating since the meter was changed.

    Hi moderat,

I switched to EDF from British Gas about 10 years ago but they did not change the meter. I have some of the bills but not all. If I ask EDF for the initial meter reading when I switched to them and a copy of all past bills, don't they have to provide them?
  • I have now received a refund from EDF and they are in the process of correcting my Gas meter details in their records.

Thanks to those who have helped! :T

After 10 years of paying for nearly 3 times as much gas as used...it must feel like winning the lottery !!! Well done.
