powerpoint and animated gifs

Ok, I know this is a pretty simple thing and I have tried looking for the answer on google but I haven't found it so far.

Basically I want to put an animated gif from the web into a powerpoint presentation. I know how to do it by saving the image then using insert>picture etc but then you need to keep the gif with the ppt and its a hassle when it stuff I need to email to people.

Someone at work sends me stuff all the time with animated gifs in but it all seems to be contained in the ppt i.e. she doesn't have to send me the seperate gif files along with it. How do I insert them like this? I would ask her but she is away at the moment.
