So being a student who does audio engineering as pat of my course, I couldn't put down "sound engineer" but as a student who does audio engineering as a seperate job, I could put "sound engineer", correct?
In that case, I'd say you are a "sound engineer" who just happens to be furthering his education in order to progress further.

Easiest way when you call whoever is to say you consider yourself to be a "sound engineer" (or whatever), but also tell them you are in full time education during term times.

As Quentin has pointed out, if you use your car for work then you need to declare that as well (and yes, that probably is going to spank you).
Insurance companies only consider the car being "used" for work purposes if you do anything other than travel to & from a "permanent" place of employment, so if your freelance work sees you working in (say) a studio for 3 months then you are not regarded as using the vehicle for work purposes.

I use my car for work - it only added £10 a year to the basic 'social and domestic' cover. It would be silly to chance it for the sake of £10.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

You mean you use it "for business"? There seems to be options for 'social', 'social and commuting' and 'business' -I'm assuming business is what I'm after if lugging equipment to and from gigs.

If that's how you make your money, then yes.

I'm pretty sure I covered that quite clearly.

Sorry I don't think you did make it clear, the OP is a student who happens to have a part time job. He can't not declare he is a student, he needs to declare both.

If the OP followed your advice and declared he was an Acoustic Engineer to save money then there is a very good chance the Insurers would invalidate his policy if they discover it during a claim. Apart from the claim not being paid the impact of having an invalidated policy on all of his future insurance policies purchases for the indefinate future are immense.

Quite apart from that, if they invalidate your cover then you would be deemed to have always been driving without insurance.

If the plod get involved in the accident then they would be VERY interested in this and would likely prosecute the driver for not having insurance.

Go back and read what I wrote chap, at no time did I advise the OP to claim anything that wasn't true.
I gave him options based on whether he was studying as part of full time employment, and guessed that phrases such as "can we assume" and "if it is" made that quite plain.

Yes - I use it for business, not commuting.

Looks like I'll have to stop trying to shave so much money off the price so as not to risk my policy being voided. I'll just have to shop around for someone who won't murder me for being a Student and requiring 'business' insurance.

    Cheers for the help :money:
  • Also, try getting quotes for more humbe cars like Fiesta's as Polo's are generally a bit dearer to repair should you ever prang it.

I read somewhere that if you add you mum or dad as a named driver that can reduce the cost. Even if they never drive it.
