We took our labrador pup to Robin Bates. He runs puppy training classes as well as other types of training for older dogs. He is based in Belfast but our class was Mallusk. The course lasts for 6 weeks and we really enjoyed it.

what about a cocker spaniel that is around 8 or 9 years old? is there any hope for him? he is, not exaggerating, a psycho! he is my girlfriends dog, he only likes her immediate family (mum dad two sistera and the two grandparents) and is very very agressive to those outside of that circle (me, others in her family and any visitors of any kind).

the main problem is, when he sees someone he doesnt like, it causes him to be agressive with those he normally isnt, and he tries to bite them too, he has bitten around 6 of the family, but as they are family they wouldnt report it or see any reason to get him trained.

the classes suggested above i doubt very much he could even go in to without biting everyone within reaching distance!

Thats cockers for you - EXTREMELY possessive unless you know the breed and can firmly train them from an early age

But they are easily trained, they thrive on learning and are very responsive. So I hope you find somewhere close to you

I think Michael McCartney will do one to one training for you also which might suit this older Cocker mentioned. He is the son of a vet .

Michael and Robin above are members of APDT so are very well qualified. Also you could contact paula doohan. I cant post links sorry but she is the first website that appears when you google her. Donegal based but you said you would travel, though not APDT member.
