Change payment date problem

Hi

I have MBNA cards (not through choice they took over the cards I had). I know a lot of people have complaints about MBNA and I have been told that because they are not a UK based company there is nothing that can be done about them and their interest charges!

Anyway my question:

I might need to change my payment date but when I enquired before I was told that I can't change it for a year! because I had already changed it I couldn't.
I find this obsurd, I am not saying that I am not going to pay I am saying I can't pay on that certain date because I won't have the funds. Is this something that they can do?

The other thing I have noticed them doing is taking the payment out the day before it is actually due.

  • I've had similar problems with MBNA. They CAN change the date again if you complain loudly enough - but I know they don't want to. They changed mine as requested, but changed it to the wrong date and then told me I couldn't get it changed again. They have apparently given in and changed it again for me, but I'm still not happy with the service.

They certainly shouldn't be taking payment the day before it's due. Do you mean if your payment is due on 10th they are claiming a direct debit on the 9th?

They operate under British law within this country. While many existing customers believe that they are charged high rates, I'm not awre of anybody succeeding in proving that these are in breach of any laws.

A card company is quite entitled to determine when the payment date is. They are not obliged to changed this.

What you are doing is asking to push the due date back - making it later and later. You've already done this once. Why do you need to do it again?

If they allowed you to keep doing this, you could possibly get away with paying 11 payments a year.

I really do think you need to look at how you are managing your money, rather than trying to use the credit card company as a cash flow tool.

The other thing I have noticed them doing is taking the payment out the day before it is actually due.
Have you asked them why this happens?

A provocative, but rather dubious post !

    Told by ?

    Legal name and address
MBNA Europe Bank Limited, Registered Office: Stansfield House, Chester Business Park, Chester, CH4 9QQ. Registered in England number 2783251..

A British company operating under British law. I think that covers that!

They permitted you to change your statement date once, why do you need to change it again? I think it's reasonable for them not to allow it again.

MBNA taking the DD a day early, I doubt it very much. The bank earmarking funds to go out of your account the day before a DD is due as is standard practice in the industry, I think so!

Take O4U's advice, it might just help you out!
  • I think OP checks his statement/balance a day/night before it goes out or is due and sees it there (under the correct date on his bank statement of course) and gets confused by this.

Yes scardey cat, if they say on the statement the payment is due and will be taken by DD on 24 of month it has come out of my account on 23 of month.

For those who asked about why the need to change, this is due to reasons beyond my control and having to change it.

I really do think you need to look at how you are managing your money, rather than trying to use the credit card company as a cash flow tool.

I am not using the card so a bit unfair for you to assume this.

So how do you suggest that it is paid if they want their payment on 24 of month and don't have the funds until a few days after this? Am not saying I am not paying it.

No I check the statement when it is produced and it is in black and white that it has come out early.

What money? that is the problem.

If the payment date is unsuitable, discontinue using the card.

I didn't say you were using the card. I said you were using the card company. Something has gone wrong with your cash flow and you're annoyed with the card company because they won't bail you out on it.

You have cash problems. What are you doing to deal with these, other than blaming the credit card company on a message board? You have a credit agreement with a payment date amended to one that you asked for. You can't afford to pay on time. This will damage your credit rating. But it isn't for MBNA to change the payment date AGAIN.
What money? that is the problem.
So, as I hinted at in the previous post, you've got a problem. The card company isn't the solution to that problem.
