  • Funnily enough i have just started a project using keys. I work in sheltered housing and recently the locks on all the flats were changed and I ended up with a huge box of keys from the old locks around 150. Iwas going to throw them out but being os couldn't stand the thought of this.
They are currently being transformed into a picture for my dad. I am using the keys to fill out an outline of a key and plan on printing out a poem to put underneath which is about father's being the key to their children's future.
I have a lovely frame to finish it off with so it should look really good when it is done and will only have cost a little.
Will add it to his xmas presents.

If you do sell on ebay or do craft fairs there is a good thing to use them up as santas magic keys..
I'll try to find the link for you but basically the idea is attach a key with cord to a printed poem about santa.I used curly ribbon and laminated the cards and sold them for £1.50 each :D Where I live the houses are being demolished and replaced so I had as many freebies as I needed as people handed in their old ones!
    One poem is..
    Santa's Key
Santa this ole key is a magical kind
And we're leaving it out for you to find
Cause for you tonight it will open any door
So you wont have to slide down chimneys anymore

I've some more will dig them out later and edit this post :D

I had some big old keys, and also did not want to throw them away, so i painted them with silver hammerite and threaded some nice ribbon through them and hung them on a wall in the house, (a country style kitchen). Lots of people comment on them.
