Tax credits appointment?

Hi all,

Just wanted to see what other's experiences were, when you ask for a claim form for tax credits have many people been asked to attend an appointment instead of having the form posted out?? Is this standard procedure? They've been told the form will be given at the appointment, do they expect you to fill it in there and then or do you take it home and complete it?

Any replies appreciated, thanks!

Did they ask you any questions using 'Experian' to check your identity? It may be that they did, your answers didn't match theirs - or there is no Experian info on you - and therefore they want you to attend an interview to have your identity verified prior to commencing a claim?

Thanks AnxiousMum, it's not actually for me but a colleague, as far as I know they don't have any debt apart from a mobile phone contract so that could be the case! Haven't seen any cases where an appointment has been required but that would make sense...

They are asking everyone who calls, and does not have sufficient information to confirm their identity, to attend an appointment where extra security will be set up. This involves you supplying answers to 2 questions - there will be about 13 to chose from. Then in future, when you call, them they can ask you those questions along with the usual ones of name, date of birth etc. The theory being that you and only you should be able to provide the answers to those 2 questions.

BTW regarding the reference to Experian you can refuse to give them permission to obtain questions to ask you from Experian.

This extra security is for your protection to ensure no-one can contact TCO and pretend to be you to maliciously make changes to your claim.

When you attend the interview you will be given a claim pack after you have confirmed your identity and it's up to you if you complete it on the premises or take it home. BTW the time allocated for one of these appointments is only 10 minutes.

Thanks Pam17, that's great info, and she'll be glad it's only a short appointment!
