redundancy / benefits entitlement

good morning, new poster here - hope you are all well.

i am about to take voluntary redundancy and wanted to draw on the experiences of people here

ive been with the company 3 yrs, so my payout isnt going to be large

i live with my wife, we rent privately on the outskirts of London. saving are small - about 1k.

i understand i will be able to claim cont.JSA immediately, and whilst the sum of £65 will aid in job seeking it isn't going to make an impression in regard to rent and other bills

i have completed the direct.gov "benfits advsior" and it came back with a result of "cont JSA - £65" and also a figure called "earnings", with a result of £388 p/w.

having called the job centre to get some advise to find out if this is accurate they informed me i would be entitled to c-JSA but nothing else........however the person i spoke to was only based in an area that covers JSA and was unable to advice on anything else (which is fair enough).

does anyone know of any official office i can call to seek clarification?
or exactly what the "earning" mentioned above are, and if that information is accurate.

many thanks in advance.

Does your wife work and what does she earn?

The "earnings" part could be her earnings + your JSA?

Yes, that is your wife's earnings plus your JSA. That is all you are entitled to - and once the six months contribution based JSA ends you will not be entitled to income based as your wife's earnings are too high. Go and have a look on the Old Style and Debt Free boards, they will help you manage on a lower income.

Doing some quick maths, the take home figure of your wife per week , plus your JSA comes roughly to that amount.
