Safety Switch for Whirlpool Bath

We are getting a whirlpool bath and have been told we need a safety switch putting in. Does anybody know anything about these? What exactly do we need? Was going to ask my father in law to put it in, (as he has a lot of experience at this sort of thing), but he's away at the mo, and i wanted to check about it before I bought the bath. Thanks!

  • You will probably need RCD protection, and as it will be in a bathroom you will need to comply to part P of the building regs (if you are in England and Wales).
Call your local council for advice prior to work starting.

I had to have the same thing for my Whirlpool bath. I opted to have the switch put by my fuse box. By the sounds of it you will need to get an Electrian in to have one fitted, it shouldnt be a really expensive undertaking.

I don't think it is mandatory to have an RCD fitted at all but I would highly recomend you do get one. You see if you touch a live wire in the bathroom you are likely to die. If you have an RCD you are less likely to die.
Just check though you haven't already got a 30mA RCD built into your CU though caus an extra one ain't going to make any difference!
