Virgin Credit Card PPI (Long Story)

OK, So heres my story, in 2006 i took out a Virgin Credit Card to help pay for holiday and any general purchases i wanted. Fast forward to 2010 where i have been unemployed twice, and struggled like hell to pay off my monthly repayments during this period (i missed a good few payments so was subsequently charged), i thought my balance had been paid off but this morning i log onto my account to activate my new card and my outstanding balance is £37.28!?
I clicked on statements and see that this is due to "card protection" of £36.99, i had absolutely no idea that i had card protection in the first place, if i had known i wouldn't have been in such a mess when i had lost my job twice during the period i have had my credit card! I'm quite shocked!
I've seen the adverts on telly about claiming back PPI but never took any notice because i nver knew i had it, now i do know i want my money back!
I've read the guide and as i understand it the first step woul be to send off the FOS Questionnaire? i'm no good at dealing with things like this and i don't really understand them so would like my sister to act on my behalf, does she just fill in the questionnaire, we both sign it and wait for a reply? And what about the mess i was put in when i became unemployed? can anything be done about the charges i had then since i didn't know i had the payment protection?
many thanks
Darren

Hi There.
First thing to do is to cancel the PPI. Then write to them and tell them that you were not aware that this PPI was on the card, Go through all the reasons shy you think this was mis sold and ask them to reimburse you for the total amount plus interest etc. Give them 8 weeks to reply and send all communication to them by recorded delivery. Only when they do not reply or turn your case down do you go down the FOS route. You will find a template letter on the info thread. Look at it and then write your own letter rather than use that one verbatum. The lenders get fed up with the standard templates.
Good Luck:mad:0 -

Hi and welcome Darren
I would do as Maxdp suggests, write to cancel, and tell them why, then request they refund all your ppi you have paid into the account and reasons, make them aware that if you had known then you would have tried making a reclaim when you became unemployed.
You can complete the questionnaire if you want to, and write the letter above as a cover letter or do either, remember to keep copies of everything, letters you send/questionnaires, and anything you receive from them as evidence.
Your sister can do this on your behalf, on the letter your sister can confirm this, and both sign, that will be fine.
If you write a letter, make sure you make them aware that you expect to hear from them by 8 weeks.
And if you can manage it, post it at your local post office for proof of delivery.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Is this a charge which appears every month or is it a one-off? If it's a one-off, could it be a charge for Card Protection against loss / theft of all your credit/debit cards? These are often charged annually - a one-off payment of around £30-£40 on your credit card statement. You might not remember signing up for this?DFW Official Nerd Club #1114
