Ikea - offer of the week rant

Options
We wanted a desk from Ikea for my sons room but discounted it as it was just too expensive- we saw it was going to be half price on the offer of the week thing. We wanted the oak vener one to co ordinate with his existing stuff.

We went to ikea the first day of the offer - no oak vener ones.... spoke to a warehouse assistant who said a property developer came in bought all 2 pallets they had delivered in (spent 8 grand in total) and they probably wouldnt get anymore in within the offer time...

.... 2 pallets ... how can they let anyone buy all there stock?? its just so wrong... everywhere else when they have offers on seem to have a max amount you can buy.

I would get in touch with IKEA Head office and explain, see what they say.

Why should someone not be "allowed" to buy it if they want it?

If I was IKEA, and I was a BUSINESS (not a charity!) and I had 8 grand worth of stock sitting there and someone wanted to buy it all i'd be dancing. Either that, or i'd have to wait weeks while loads of people came in dribs and drabs buying just one at a time

I can feel for you, and understand your disappointment - but as a business model, selling your items seems to be a good and logical one i'd say!!

I agree up to a point.

The thing is if it was normal stock it would be ok but IKEA were obviously advertising it as a special offer so you would expect stock to be there early on the first day of the offer. Many of these special deals are to attract people into the store with the aim of them buying more than the item on offer.

As the OP rightly said many stores do limit special offers to a max per customer so that everyone gets a chance.

So you're better than just anyone are you? Why shouldn't anyone buy all their stock, they're a business !

Like all items in any sale at any price, they're all subject to availability. You obviously didn't go to the store early enough did you and someone else beat you to it.

What if you purchased the last one, then 10 seconds later somebody else wanted it. Would that be unfair on them because you beat them to it ?

Thought about trying another store ?
