Thank you all for your replies. I will go through them and find the applications most suitable for me.
Nice to know how much free stuff there is out there. I should have looked into this years ago, but I just carried on with the Norton out of laziness.
Thanks again.Sealed Pot challenge 2011 member 1051 - aiming for £365

Hi all.
After reading this thread I was checking my Windows firewall and it is switched off, I don't remember ever doing this or why I would have.
I have Norton 360 installed at the minute - would this automatically disable the Windows firewall? Should I try to switch it on again?
Sorry for being so clueless!0 -
When you install a 3rd party firewall (eg norton), windows firewall is switched off. In these days of routers, software firewalls aren't that important, they just slow things down.!!

Norton 360 includes their own firewall so when you installed it it should have turned of the windows one, mainly because having more than one software firewall running at any one time is asking for conflicts and other problemsDrop a brand challenge

Thank you to all to took the time to answer my query. I now have a very good free replacement for Norton 360.
I am not going to say which as I don't want to show favouritism, but I am very impressed with the increased speed of my computer.
Thank you to everyone.
