Help needed !!!

ive had my credit card (with sky) for 3 years now with a 2000 limit on it i maxed it out within the first 6 months and havent used it since because i missed so many payments on it my balance is still 1500 left to pay in total i must of payed them about 5000 with all the charges and interest
oh and when i got my balance down to 1500 they dropped my limit to that much so as soon as they put the interest on my account i was over my limit and more charges! how can i get them to close my account and stop charging me interest, wich is about 30 pound a month!!

You could stop missing payments, stop going overlimit and start making payments towards the balance. This makes the amount you owe go down. Repeat this until the balance gets to zero. Hey presto - your account will be closed and they won't charge you any more interest.

There are 2 ways of going about this really.

First way and most would say the best way.

Ask for the account to be closed. The main thing is then the APR cannot be increased by them.

BUT you must take steps to pay off any arrears and then make at least the minimum payment each month, preferably more, that will eventually decrease the amount owed obviously.

This way you can gradually repair your credit rating.

    Second way

With all the missed payments, your credit status is likely to be poor now, so you could look at trying to close the card down and try to come to some sort of arrangement to pay with them, which would basically mean defaulting the account.

It would mean that you would trash your credit record even more and probably be unable to get credit elsewhere for 6 years. On the other hand, you could get all the interest/late payments stopped and pay back an agreed amount till clear.

You probably are best posting over on the debt free wanabee section of the forums, your situation.

Over here on the credit card section, most of us like people to accept it is their debt and therefore should be responsible and pay it back the first way.

I'm not entirely sure he can anymore as Barclaycard stopped issuing the card...i used to have it but got rid of it when i got notification Barlaycard were taking it over, and now when you contact them nobody even knows what the sky card even is anymore.
