    hi guys

when charging over night do the heaters still give of heat?
also if i charge them overnight and dont use them the next day do i loose the heat or is it still stored in the heater?

the heat stored is radiated slightly from the casing - it's only when you open the vents in the morning is the heat really convected around the room. If you leave the vents closed, it won'r loose as much heat but I'm not sure how long it would keep the heat in.
  • I was going to make a hot water tank analogy, but it didn't really work :o
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

We had these and had to have a small electric fire in the front room too!

The problem we had was trying to guess the weather a couple of days in advance. In autumn if you had a sudden few chilly days, we'd be caught out and be really cold in the evenings so we'd set the storage heaters to come on - then the weather would turn warm again and we'd bake!! ;)

You do get used to it though, but I would recommend an additional heater in case you get caught out.

Didn't notice any major heating overnight when they were heating up - except in my room where the airing cupboard/hot water tank was which also heated up in the night on Ec7! Mainly noticed that in summer though as it heated up the whole room when the water heated!

You have to be psychic to use storage heaters.

I agree completely with this & apart from that they are also rubbish if your out all day at work. I thought they were designed for people who didn't work really (at least thats the only thing I could see them beign useful for)

We just stopped using them at all after 2 years & brought an oil filled radiator instead (it was only a 1 bedroom flat) so we just took the radiator on wheels with us when we changed rooms.

    This worked much better.

I wouldn't touch a place with storage heaters with a barge pole unless your either going to replace them or your in all day or your happy to give up on them & buy something else instead.

    worto.
  • Hi Edmund, have to say that Silverlady is talking a lot of sense! however my experience is that the newer the better (but expensive to buy!) they are good for background warmth, but living in the country(as I do!) I need to use a woodburner for extea heat (no gas to my village!!!). For economy have you considered DIMPLEX timed panel heaters for your little used areas i.e. bathroom/bedroom - I installed these and have seen my electic bill fall! and on the plus side - you control when they are on with no need to look at the weather forecast (nortoriously wrong!). Either way my advise would be - if they are old then CHANGE them as they are inefficient and will (in the long run) cost you your hard earned cash!
