I'm running win 7 on an asus laptop. when the battery gets low it goes into what I think is hibernation. I immediately plug it in and it never goes off but I cannot wake it up. I have to turn it off completely and back on again. Can anyone help please?

It doesn't sound like it's going into Hibernation, as that should result in complete power-off - and it should resume to the same state when you power back on. It looks more likely to be going into Standby.

You can change the behaviour by going into Power Management and looking at Advanced Power Settings. Then look at the settings for Low Battery and Critical Battery Action.

Go to control panel >> power options and change the settings as you want.

Thanks for the advice. The critical battery setting was to hibernate. I obviously didn't know how to return from hibernate so I changed it to sleep and will see if that helps.
