Coverage under fir trees
Hi, I am enjoying my first time with my own garden this year (even if it is rented!).
I have fir trees round some edges of my garden - can't remove them asits only a rented house, and they are very established.
I am wondering what kind of ground coverage plant to use to cover up the bare soil near and under these trees. Not a lot of sun here either and most things don't survive.
Thanks!

This is one of the notorius worst areas for planting.
You could try Geranium Macrorrhizum, it will grow in dry shade, but I think the conifers and bits they drop can upset the soil balance.
Don't spend much money on trying to grow under there. You may just have to live with the brown dry stuff at the bottom of the hedge.
I suppose you could try a mulch to make it look a bit better, you can get all sorts of coloured stone chips, or bark, cones or even sea shells to mulch with. Then spend money on brightnening up other areas with plants, where you will have a better chance of them growing or add lots of pots, but be prepared to water a lot!Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!
