Insurance for student studying abroad

I'm trying to find an insurance policy which will cover a student from the Uk studying in the USA for 4 years. Whilst the USA college has included mandatory health insurance, no cover seems to be in place for other usual insurables eg personal possessions, flight cancellation, public liability etc. Any ideas please?....I'm wondering whether a travel insurance policy each year is the answer - although aware that health insurance would then be doubled!

Travel insurance will cover your travel only. Nothing else as you will be overstaying.
Once you are there, visit a university website or something and they will direct you.

But if the flight is cancelled before my daughter gets to college....or her luggage goes missing..........?0

The UK travel insurance should cover the flight cancellation and luggage lost. She should still get UK travel insurance for at least the flight and luggage. I would phone up as each stupid travel insurance is different. So although I said it would be covered, the insurance you buy might say otherwise.
The insurance market is going crazy at the moment with the amount they have lost. So the cheapest is not always the best. Go online and get a quote. Phone them up and then ask. Make sure you jot down the person name - 'full name' - if you decide to buy the insurance!Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

We can't get Uk travel insurance apparently, as for it she has to be returning to and from UK within a shorter specified time! Have spent hours googling and phoning round and getting absolutely nowhere. Any more ideas, anyone, please?!:(0

@pompom1, you need a comprehensive student coverage, not a travel policy... it should be easy to get one from the university your child is attending. In case you need to have one before he/she flies off, then check for sites that cover medical, financial, legal & other issues while your child is studying in the US ... you could find some useful info on a site like ICICI Lombard ...it elaborates the requirements of a student plan..cheers, Raks0

You can buy one way Travel Insurance, where you are not returning to the UK for sometime. If you google, emigration Travel Insurance, you will find policies.
Once they are in the US, they can arrange suitable cover locally. If they contact the college by sending an email, they may be able to provide details. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
