Grocery and Household items with vat

Hello - Now that I've stocked up on loo rolls in advance of the vat increase in January - can anyone tell me what other household/grocery items to look out for to stock up on before January? (They would have to be non perishable!) Every little bit helps. :)Many thanks.

it tells you on your till receipt which items you paid VAT on, so just do your shopping as normal and then stock up on the things you paid VAT on.

No point in stocking up on items you never buy, so if you haven't got a reciept for it showing you paid VAT on it, don't stock up on it.
  • Thank you Geordie Joe - I'll check my future receipts.

VAT is going up by just 2.5%. I would have thought you could save much more than that by stocking up on genuine special offers.

That's true, but we don't know how much the supermarkets are going to put the prices up.

Everyone is expecting a price rise when it goes up, so the supermarkets will take the opportunity to add their own increase to the price. Then blame it on the VAT.

Like when they put 10p on a packet of fags in the budget, and the next day you go to buy a packet and they've gone up 25p.

Plus, not everything is on special offer, and there's only so much you can stock up on on any one thing. Is it better to stock up 10 years worth of beans, or two years worth of five different items?

I might buy three months supply of something that was very good value and which i use regularly, depending on use by dates of course.

Two years would be a bit much for me

I think this is a very good thread and with a good timescale to stockpile,I usually only buy toilet rolls on offer anyway so will now buy double till January.
Been shopping today and heres a few other items that are vatable
Alcohol, carbonised drinks, both with reasonable dates when purchased the only other thing was crisps which only have 3 months life max anyway, will have to make my own cheesey biscuits to replace.
Really like this thread and it would be great it everyone would add what is vatable.
I dont buy much processed food so think it will not make too much differance to me.
